Martin Luther King Jr Day of Service
The Montgomery County Volunteer Center annually hosts the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service event – A Day of Service event in Montgomery County and nationally recognized as a day for thousands of volunteers to contribute their time giving back to the community. Montgomery County celebrates this national holiday by hosting a county-wide event consisting of several locations (four locations) for volunteers to spend two hours of community service helping with projects planned by non-profit organizations and agencies in the community.
TMAC takes the lead in planning and managing all details of the main site at the North Bethesda Marriot Conference Center. This include soliciting projects from agencies registered with the Volunteer Center and developing additional service projects to fill the entire ballroom for the two-hour period. We help coordinate and develop effective satellite sites for MLK Day building on past successes at The International Cultural Center and Silver Spring Civic Building. We are responsible for the program development, event planning and event marketing to promote the event to the public. Event planning and coordination services include, but not limited to: venue coordination; service project planning and coordination with non-profit organizations and agencies; developing site floorplan and layout; recruiting over 150 volunteer event staff including training and orientation; online registration of volunteers; security; multiple site coordination and management; vendor coordination and payment; provide detail budget and management; on-site event operations (set-up and break-down, registration, free earned media, signage, photography, and managing volunteers); organizational service project host cost reimbursements (Event Scholarships).
